New Pictures
By Nathan | April 30, 2008
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I put some new pictures online. The first album is more pictures from my trip to Tucson. They are from a place called Mt Lemmon. I really enjoyed spending time up there. In fact, I actually saw snow in shady spots at the top. Yes, snow in the desert. Sorry, I didn’t get any pictures. It’s hard to take pictures while you are driving.
The second set of photos are from Jenny and Josh’s trip to Georgia. They had a wonderful time spending time with Grams and Gramps. I’ll let her update you on the trip, but in the meantime here are the photos. Enjoy!
Remember you can access all of my galleries at any time by clicking the Photos link at the top of the page.

Tucson
By Nathan | April 22, 2008
I just wanted to take a minute and update you all on my trip to Tucson. It has been a wonderful trip. I have learned so much about church planting and myself that one post could not contain it. It is amazing to see the movement of God throughout this nation. So often we get busy in our daily lives that we forget to look around us and see the bigger picture. The Kingdom of God is spreading across the globe and to think that we can actually be a part of it is amazing.
I’ve been amazed at the city in general. There are 1.1 million people here, yet the city has a small town type of feel. The city is spread out over almost 200 square miles. There are no major freeways with the exception of I10. However, this is strange considering most cities have some sort of freeway system. This does make it difficult to get around the city in any speedy fashion. For those of you in Raleigh, it’s like trying to take Capital Blvd or Glenwood everywhere you go. Yes, it’s that big of a nightmare. Putting that aside, the city is beautiful. Nestled in the valley with massive mountains all around. It’s the mountain biker/hikers dream. The climate has been relatively mild making it pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.
The city of Tucson is 93% unchurched making it a daunting task for church planting. However, there are some amazing people that are here trying to change that. The first is Sean Benesh who is the Church Planting Strategist for this area. He has an amazing vision for church planting in this area, and he is a wonderful asset to the church planters in the area. Check out his site www.tucsonchurchplanting.com for more info on church planting in Tucson. Along with Sean there are a number of great church planters. I have had the opportunity to meet many of them, as well as, attend worship at two of the church plants. I encourage you to check out the planters and their church’s websites. You can find a link here.
I’m still not sure if Tucson is the place for me. Even though Sean is trying hard to recruit me. I do know that there is a great need. If I end up not coming to Tucson, I will keep it in mind for places for my church to plant. I encourage you all to pray for the church planters in this area, as they have a great task ahead of them for reaching Tucson with the Gospel of Christ. That’s all for now. I’ll update you all later.

Trip to Tucson
By | April 16, 2008
I just wanted to give you all an update on our lives and a prayer request. Tomorrow I’ll be flying out to Tucson, Arizona in order to see if God would have us plant a church in that city. Pray for me that I will have wisdom in the Lord’s leading in my life. Pray for my family, as Jenny and Josh will be heading to Woodstock to spend some time with her parents.
I am looking forward to the opportunity, but I am also dreading it in other ways. This will be the first time that I have had an extended absence from not only Josh but Jenny as well. I will miss them both desperately. I will give you all updates on the trip later, but this is an incredible opportunity that I have to be able to work with some church planters in that region and see what they face on a daily basis. Thank you all for your prayers. I’ll update you soon.

4 Month Stats, Cute Video, and A Day in the Life
By Jenny | April 15, 2008
Josh turned four months old this past Saturday. Yesterday we had his doctor’s appointment, so we wanted to update you on his stats. He now weighs 14 lb. 8 oz. (45th percentile) and is 25.25 inches long (55th percentile). He continues to amaze us with his development and personality. He is quite the little ham. As you can tell from the video, he loves to talk. I think Daddy is still his favorite person, although he’ll warm up to almost anyone. He loves it when Nathan plays with him, and as soon as he hears Nathan’s voice when he walks in the door from work, Josh’s eyes light up and he begins looking around for Daddy. I guess I don’t mind being his second favorite. I hope Daddy is always his hero.
I’m sure all moms have days that test their patience more than others. On Saturday afternoon, there was a series of catastrophes around the Miller house that had this mom feeling a little frazzled. I thought I’d share the story for a little comic relief. Nathan was running sound for a wedding, and his parents had just recently left after a short visit. Josh had been taking a nap in his bouncy seat, and I was taking a little time to relax. He awoke from his nap quite fussy. As soon as I walked into the living room to get him, I smelled an unpleasant aroma. I figured one of the cats was responsible and went to inspect the litter box in the corner. No, it was not the litter box. What could it be? You guessed it! Our little man had taken care of business, and it was all over him and his bouncy seat. (Not really a shocker after all the green beans and peas he had eaten earlier in the day.) I started working away to remove the clothing without spreading the you-know-what all over him (with little success). He kept wanting to put his hands in his mouth, but his hands were not clean, so I kept telling him “no” and wiping them off. I finally resorted to the paci, which he promptly pulled out and swung around in his hand, almost getting it in the mess that I was attempting to clean. This process of diaper changing took at least 8 minutes from start to finish. In the meantime, one of the cats decided to do his business. His litter box just happens to be next to one of my favorite houseplants. We always put gravel on top of the soil on the houseplants to keep the cats from digging. Well, I guess because it was next to his litter box, once he was finished, he started scraping gravel into the box and onto the floor as he covered things up. I just watched this unfold as I finished cleaning Josh up. I went to lay Josh down on his play mat while I got his clothes in the laundry when I discovered that Cub had gotten gravel, litter, and you-know-what on Josh’s mat. Plan B - I decided to lay Josh in the crib while I got laundry started. I cleaned up the gravel off the floor, put the play mat and the clothes in the washer, and scooped out the litter box. By this time, I was warm and wanted to put my hair up. I grabbed a pony-tail holder, and just as I got it wrapped around my hair - you guessed it - the rubber band snapped. At this moment, I started to realize the humor in the situation. I grabbed another one and put my hair up. Finally, I went to pick Josh up from the crib and noticed - yep - he’d spit up green beans on his white sheet. Thankfully the laundry was still on the wash cycle and I was able to toss it in with the other things. Whew! The rest of the afternoon was uneventful, but those thirty minutes or so gave us quite a good laugh. I hope this censored version of the story didn’t offend or gross anyone out. And if it did, just wait until you have children.

Josh’s Hat
By Nathan | April 5, 2008
Hello everyone! I know that it has been a while since I last posted anything, but as you all know, life can be busy. I thought you all would like to see Josh in his cap for the first time. We were getting ready to go on a family walk and we decided to put his baseball suit on complete with cap. I think he likes it!
Also, we began to pack up our apartment this weekend. It’s hard to believe that we will be leaving Raleigh in less than 8 weeks. Raleigh has become home for us. This is where we started our married life together, as well as had our first child. We will be sad to leave, but we are looking forward new opportunities. I’ll write more on that later. As we pack up we are getting some extra special help from our cats. As Jenny was packing up our china Cub decided to climb up in the cabinet and give her a hand. I’m glad to see that he is being productive.

Finally a Smile
By Jenny | April 1, 2008
Josh smiles at the drop of a hat. He smiles at anyone who talks to him, he even smiles at his toys sometimes. I’ve tried and tried to get some photos of his cute little smile, but the moment the camera gets between my face and his, he gets distracted and won’t smile. Finally today I was able to catch a good smile on camera. Oh, and if you click on the photo there are a few more new pics added to the gallery.

Josh at 15 Weeks - New Pics in the Gallery
By Jenny | March 30, 2008
Time sure flies with a little one! Josh continues to amaze and entertain us as he grows. He is quite a little ham these days and enjoys smiling and “talking” to anyone who will listen. His newest fascination is with his hands. They are always in his mouth, it seems. It doesn’t even seem to bother him that he frequently gags himself by sticking them so far back. He is making new sounds when he vocalizes (ooh, ahh, oh, and a funny gurgling sound lately), and we’ve had the pleasure of hearing him laugh and giggle several times. He’ll even fake a cough sometimes to get a little attention. He made his first big road trip to Florida a few weeks ago, and we’ll be going to Georgia in April. Nathan and I love watching him develop and grow…it’s hard to believe he’ll be four months old soon. We’re guessing that he weighs between 14 and 15 pounds now, and he’s probably 24 or 25 inches long. He’s gaining more head control, trying really hard to roll over, and scooting all around when he’s on his back. As you can see by some of the photos in the gallery, we need to start buckling him up in the swing - I’ve found him on a few occasions almost falling out. He just gets to kicking his feet until he’s scooted way down in it.
Overall he continues to be a joy! He’s a very content baby, and we are thankful for his easygoing nature. We never imagined how much we would love our little guy. What a blessing!
Nathan and I can’t believe that we only have about 9 more weeks here in Raleigh. We will graduate on May 23 and start packing up our apartment to move to Woodstock, GA. We are excited about what the future holds, but we will certainly miss everyone in Raleigh. There is much to do in these last weeks, but we will try to do better keeping the site updated as Josh grows. Click on the picture below to see all the new photos.
