Family Visit

By Jenny | November 5, 2005

This weekend Nathan’s parents, Bill & Becky, came to visit us. Last night we went out to Raleigh’s very first LongHorn Steakhouse that opened last month. We ate a DELICIOUS meal of steaks, potatoes, bread, and firecracker chicken wraps!!! Then we came home and watched Star Wars III: Return of the Sith. (Well, Nathan and Bill watched the movie…Becky and I went to sleep.) This morning we were all up and out of the house early. Becky and I attended “Holidays Fit for the King” at our church while Nathan and Bill took a trip to the Mac store at Southpoint Mall. The ladies’ event at the church was so nice!! First, a number of ladies volunteered to host a table. They were all decorated beautifully for Christmas or Thanksgiving with candles, baskets, floral arrangements, etc. I wish I would have taken a camera to get a photo of the tables! Of course there was wonderful food to munch on as well. We had two ladies from the church speak on some ways to keep Christ the focus of our holiday season. Then we were dismissed to attend two workshops. There were several workshops available, but the ones we attended were “Gift Wrapping” and “Wrapped in Joy and Tied with Love and Traditions.” The Gift Wrapping room was filled with fun, creatively-wrapped gifts. We got many ideas. (Disclaimer to friends and family: this does not mean that I am a professional gift-wrapper now…please don’t expect perfectly-wrapped gifts in the near future.) The second workshop was also a source for some wonderful ideas for making traditions in your family as well as making crafts to decorate on a budget for the holidays.

Following our time at the church we went to a nearby mall for lunch, then home to rest for a bit. Nathan and Bill cooked dinner for us tonight - grilled chicken and baked potatoes. Yummy!!! Bill bought a foot spa thing today at Brookstone for his arthritic foot, and I was the first to try it out!! It felt great until it got so hot it was burning my feet!! Bill and Becky also helped us tonight as we completed the task of bringing our plants inside from our balcony. We’ve had to do a little rearranging, but everything looks nice!

Bill and Becky had to leave tonight, but we had a great day together. I am so thankful for a good relationship with my in-laws! I couldn’t have asked for any better - they are the best!!! And yes, Bill, I know Nathan gets all his bad traits from his mother. Just kidding!

One of the neatest ideas Becky and I got today was for a holiday glass block light. Basically, you take a glass block (used a lot in bathrooms - they let in light, but don’t allow you to see inside), drill a hole in it, then cram some Christmas lights in and tie a bow on top. We went to Lowe’s and bought the blocks (they’re really cheap), and Nathan and Bill drilled the holes for us. Nathan has posted some pics of the new craft idea.
